Internal competition over, says new DA WC leader Madikizela

Bonginkosi Madikizela was officially announced as the new DA leader in the province on Saturday, after acting in the position since January.

CAPE TOWN – Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela says internal contestation in the party is over, now that the provincial leadership race has been concluded.

The party held its Provincial Elective Conference in Goodwood outside Cape Town on Saturday.

In a two-horse race, he defeated Provincial Legislature Member Lennit Max for the position.

Madikizela kicked dust in the face of Max, who’s eyed the position for the fourth time.

The new leader says, “If we don’t save South Africa by 2019, by 2024 we will not have any party left to save.”

Mayoral committee member JP Smith took the first deputy chairperson spot, Shawn August second, and Antoinette Steyn occupies the third deputy chairperson position.

Meanwhile, Anton Bredell has maintained his position as provincial Chairperson.

Andricus van der Westhuizen will now serve as the party’s Finance Chairperson.

Conrad Poole, Tertius Simmers, James Vos and Peter Helfrich have been appointed as additional members.
