JMPD officer trying to stop hijacking survives gunshot to the head

Johannesburg – A 47-year-old Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer is in a critical condition at Milpark Hospital after he was shot in the head by hijackers in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Booysens.

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the officer intervened after a minibus was hijacked at around 04:45 near Pat Mbatha Busway and Old True Road Booysens.

"The suspects shot at the officer about five times and one bullet hit the side of his head," Minnaar said.
