Cape Town - Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting says he is keen to new coach Justin Langer's backroom team to help in some capacity.
With captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and opener Cameron Bancroft all banned, Langer is tasked with guiding Australian cricket into a new era and winning back the trust of an irate public.
Ponting, who is currently in India coaching the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, says he wants to help.
"Justin is absolutely the right man and if I can get involved in any way trying to help him out, maybe even as an assistant coach around the T20 format or one-day format, then absolutely, I’d love to do that," Ponting told the ICC's official website.
"I had a chance to do that in New Zealand in a triangular series working under Darren Lehmann. I absolutely loved being back around that team environment again, so fingers crossed those opportunities might present themselves in the next few months as well."
Australia's first assignment under Langer will be a five-match ODI series against England, in England, next month.
