JOHANNESBURG – South Africa's best loved prankster says he found it extremely difficult to make his latest movie because people kept catching him out. Leon Schuster says he had to keep changing his disguises during the filming of Schuks! Your Country Needs You just to make him look different. “It was very difficult for me to catch people out in this movie. I had to work 10 times harder than I initially thought I would. Many people recognised me despite the fact that I changed my disguises often.” He said as soon as there was a scene that looked a little bit absurd, he would be caught out within minutes.

“In one of the scenes they recognised me in a black disguise. I wouldn't have even recognised myself, but somehow they recognised me. It must be something in my voice that gives me away.”

Schuster said there are a few good surprises in the film and although there are some different gags, he has stuck to his traditional recipe. He says highlights of the film include catching out rugby coach Peter de Villiers as well as an entire community in Reiger Park. “It is different, but still has the same old Schuster pranks. I can't go too far away from my recipe because if my audience demands something, that's what I have to give them.”

Schuster added that in his opinion, South Africa is in essence a pranking nation. “It all has to do with rugby, braaivleis and sonskyn! We live outdoors. I don't think there is another country in the world where pranks play such a big part for audiences.”
