Pitso 'happy' Soweto giants are playing in Africa

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes that Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs' participation in both the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup is a big plus for South African football.

The Buccaneers have joined Sundowns in the group stages of the Champions League whereas Chiefs could qualify for the group stages of the Confederations Cup for the first time if they beat Zambia's Zesco United over two legs in a playoff clash.

‘Downs are taking part in their fifth consecutive Champions League campaign having won Africa's most prestigious cup competition in 2016.

He told reporters: "It's good and I'm so happy that my brothers are there [on the continent] now in the groups stages (Chiefs yet to qualify).

“We're all flying the flag, which is good for Bafana Bafana because we're playing against [African] players in that space.

“I'm happy with that. It's been our lives for the last five years that we've lived in that space, and there's no excuses about the competitions.

“I must really give the PSL credit, they've been communicating with us even during the week and at night, to try and help us fly the flag of the country by shifting and moving games.

“We've got about 32 games [in all competitions] ahead and there's no break in between, so I think Chiefs and Pirates are going to go through the same thing."

'Jingles' added that he believes Wits have an advantage in the Premiership title race as a result of the fixture congestion.

He concluded: “So, Wits, I tip Hunty [coach Gavin Hunt] to run away with the title.”
