SA players abroad: Dolly suffers injury woe

Cape Town - Sport24 looks back at the past weekend’s Super Lig, EFL Championship, Ligue 1, First Division A and Eredivisie matches involving South African players.

– Siphiwe Tshabalala made his first start for new Turkish side Erzurumspor, as they drew 2-2 against Sivasspor in the Super Lig on Sunday. Tshabalala was hauled off in the 43rd minute as his side scored late to grab a draw at the Yeni Sivas 4 Eylul Stadium. Erzurumspor are second from bottom in the 18-team Turkish league.

- Kamehelo Mokotjo was an unused substitute as Brentford defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 to secure their fifth straight home win at Griffin Park on Saturday. The Bees are second in the EFL Championship trailing only Leeds United in the standings.

– Bongani Zungu is currently out of action after suffering an ACL injury to his knee in Amiens' last league fixture. Zungu is expected to be out of action for six months. Amiens suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Lillie at the Stade de la Licorne on Saturday. Amiens are 18th in Ligue 1 on 4 points from 5 games.

– Elsewhere, Lebo Mothiba came off the bench for new side Strasbourg in the 54th minute and scored a last-ditch equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw against Keagan Dolly's Montpellier at the La Mosson Stadium on Saturday. Strasbourg are 16th in the standings with five points after five games.

– Keagan Dolly who started in the same fixture was substituted after 6 minutes after suffering a fracture to his fibula. Dolly is expected to be out for several months due to the injury. Montpellier are 5th in Ligue 1 with eight points from five games.

– Percy Tau played 84 minutes as he maintained his good form for Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise by grabbing an assist in a 2-0 win over Roeselare at the Heysel Stadium on Saturday. Union Saint-Gilloise are 4th in the 8-team Belgian second division with 7 points from 6 games.

– Thulani Serero played the full 90 minutes for Vitesse as they ran out 2-0 winners over Zwolle at the MAC Park Stadium on Sunday. Vitesse are sixth in the 18-team Dutch league with 8 points after 5 games.
